WELCOME BATU KURAU

Batu Kurau is an area in the Larut Matang district, 20km from Taiping town. It can be reach via the Kamunting - Batu Kurau main road or from Selama via the Redang Panjang road or from the Pondok Tanjung - Batu Kurau main road.

Batu Kurau was established in the 1850's, under the leadership of Tok Amar Wan Kasa Bin Raja Hulubalang Petani which was later elected as the Penghulu of Batu Kurau from 1859 till 1867. Historically, Batu Kurau establishment is almost the same with Taiping which was established around 1850 - 1857, during the tenure of Long Jaafar as "Pembesar" of Jajahan Larut (Taiping)


Residents of Batu Kurau are mostly Malay of the Pattani descendant which is related to the Pattani people of Southern Thailand. The Pattani people has a knack of choosing the most fertile land where they can grow crops and farming, which include local fruits i.e. durian, jack fruit, mango to name a few. Near by river and streams is vital as it is use to water the padi plantation. Hence, the life of the Pattani people is symbiosis with nature.

Batu Kurau are blessed with nature with pristine river and waterfall, padi field and fruits orchards. Batu Kurau was once home of the best durian in the world. 

Because of these properties, Batu Kurau has been chosen as the filming location for many local film and TV series.
